Mobile Ceramic Studio

Welcome to our website. My name is Penny Blood and I run Glazed Expressions. We are based in Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.  I would never describe myself as an artist.  I don't draw, and I never thought I could create art, but that was before I discovered ceramics. Now, every blank piece of pottery is a challenge. I have an image in my head of how I'd like something to turn out, so I try it, what I end up with is usually quite different but just as satisfying, and I can say "I made that!", which is the best feeling.

Parties for all

I am happy to run parties for any age group.  I do a lot of toddler and pre-school groups. I usually find that when the parents see just how much fun it is, they want to have a go themselves. This is when I arrange to come and do a session for them one evening, or when they arrange for me to drop off the items and they 'do it themselves'.  Then, they'll ask me back to do a party for their older children.  It really is something that appeals to any age group.

The Professional Touch

One of the most important aspects of ceramics is the glazing and firing process.  You have to be so careful to take a professional approach.  After somebody has spent time and care producing a wonderful creation it is so important that it is glazed and fired to a high standard.  This is why I use only the highest quality paints and glazes, and take special care that each firing of the kiln is exactly right.  We have all attended a wide variety of professional courses and training seminars to acquire the technical skills necessary for the work. It's certainly not as fun as the creative side but it is vitally important because only when glazing and firing is done properly will the full benefit of the creative work be seen.

Satellite Navigation

We will happily travel to all types of parties around the Berkhamsted area, including Hemel Hempstead, Tring, Watford, Chesham, Amersham, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Luton and Leighton Buzzard.  This work is made so much easier now that satellite navigation has consigned the road atlas to the bin and I can concentrate on the party at hand rather than fretting over getting there.
